Mountains, Botanical Gardens and Food

Table Mountain Cable Car and Lion's Head

Discovering the touristic spots of the Mother City was on the top of my "Cape Town To Do List".

So it is not a surprise that Table Mountain was on very high up on that list.

We got there early (before the opening time) with our online tickets thinking we will sail through...how we were wrong! Over two hours spent in line, slowly melting as we thought we would be clever and dress warmly as it is always windy up Table Mountain (that day it was probably one of the hottest mornings in CT), we reached the Cable Car and ascended up to the iconic Table Mountain.

My sister and I took the required selfies and headed to the Table Mountain Cafe for breakfast. There is a self service buffet with a huge choice of food for everyone to have something to eat. What makes the foodie experience is that amazing view while you're eating.

Next stop on the tour was the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens for lunch and wandering through nature. Pulling up to the entrance of the Gardens was quite surreal to think that there is such a place within a city. I think that what makes Cape Town such a special city because it has a little something for everyone.

Walking through the gardens, I learnt that Cape Town has its own Floristic Kingdom and it is the smallest one in the world. To put it into perspective the other five kingdoms actually span over continents.

First things first, the food in the Gardens we decided to have lunch at the Kirstenbosch Tea Room. The Tea Room was established in 1924 and has been a popular place to eat for both locals and tourists. When we got there it was buzzing with families, couples, groups of friends and tourists. We were seated in the perfect spot as we could see the start of the Gardens.

There was such a choice of food to choose from, we finally decided on Mexican Grilled Chicken and Avocado Salad for my sister and Crumbed Chicken Schnitzel (with an amazing pepper sauce) for me. Their Homemade Rooibos Iced Tea is a must have there.

Even though the portions were large, it was really good and we managed to finish our plates. Even on our full stomachs we decided to head out for our walk through the gardens.

A must do when you're in the Gardens is the Tree Canopy Walk, it is a suspended bridge 12m above the grounds of Kirstenbosch. I have never been one to enjoy walking through Botanical Gardens but this place has changed my opinion.

Kirstenbosch Gardens is a truly magic place within a special city.
