Clay, Coffees and Coastlines

Nestled in the hills leading to the town of Hout Bay you can find the Clay Cafe. This cafe has a unique concept that is definitely fun for all ages.

Upon arrival at the cafe, we get checked in at the reception and are walked through the process.

Firstly, you can chose from a wide range of ready made ceramic items such as cups, mugs, teapots, plates and bowls. All different sizes but completely white as a blank canvas waiting to be decorated.

The next phases are to choose your different equipments like paints, paintbrushes, stencils and turntables.

Once you have everything ready on your table, only what is left to do is to find the artist within.

While you are painting and decorating away, you are able to have a quick coffee or even breakfast or lunch.

Once we had painted our mugs, we signed them and left them to be glazed. Three weeks later you can collect your ceramic art.

After a wonderful morning spent at the Clay Cafe, we headed off to Hout Bay for lunch. Right on the beach of Hout Bay you will find a typical seaside restaurant called Dunes painted white and blue.

Their menu has a wide range of fish dishes, meat dishes, burgers, salads, sushi and pizzas. I definitely would recommend their traditional fish and chips with a nice glass of cold white wine.

What made me fall more in love with this restaurant on top of its idyllic setting, great food and atmosphere is that they are a pet

friendly restaurant. Working in the hospitality industry I understand the point of view of "No Pets" but in my heart restaurants that allow you always win me over more quickly. Like children, I believe if your pet can behave in public they should be allowed in the restaurant.
