I have put it out there that I have little, if not no, skills when it comes to piping and using piping methods for decorating cakes. So I wanted to find another method of decorating that would be as impressive as amazing piping techniques.
Scrolling through Pinterest looking for ways to decorate cakes, I discovered the fantastic world of drip cakes. Somehow in all my years I never knew that that form of cake decorating existed. I am not sure if its is a newer technique or its been around and only because of social media has it been brought in the forefront.
But in any case, I am one novice cake decorator that is grateful to have discovered that technique to decorate cakes. It is a technique that I am slowly experimenting with and getting better at each time I have had a cake to bake and decorate.
The benefit of drip cakes is that you are able to have a freedom to decorate the cake in many ways. You are able to create contrasts for example white buttercream with a dark chocolate drip. Or a Dark Chocolate Buttercream with a white chocolate drip or white buttercream with a blue drip, the possibilities are endless.
Once you have decided on your coat and drip colours, you can continue to decorate the top of the cake with many things. For example, if the person you are baking the cake for is a chocoholic, you can decorate with different chocolates that they like. If they are someone that likes biscuits or whiskey or golf or flowers, the possibilities are endless. This is because once you have a smooth buttercream coat and smooth drip layer, you have a blank canvas at your fingertips.
